Important information
Safety Information:
Do not attempt to open the leash casing, as there is a loaded coil spring inside which could be hazardous. Contact manufacturer if there is a problem with the leash. Do not let your dog run to the end of the line, as excessive pull force could pull the user and cause injury. Inspect the nylon leash material before each use and do not use if it is damaged or frayed (watch out for abrasion and biting, as these are the main causes). Do not use the leash if it is damaged or if your dog's collar is damaged – snapback can occur if there is a break and cause serious injury. Do not allow the leash to wrap around any body part.

Absolute best buy extending dog lead
We’ve tried a few extending leads over the years and this is by *far* the best. Why?
+ handle size. Unlike the main well-known high street brand, the handle is a good standard size no matter what size your dog (the other brand seem to think the owner’s hand size corresponds with the size of the dog?!)
+ handle angle. Many of the other brands have a really steep angle handle so you end up crooking your hand back. This one is a shallower angle so much more comfortable to hold.
+ solid clip. The clip seems well constructed and securely attached to the tape; with a very determined and strong dog it has been well tested; after 6+ months it is showing no sign of wear or yielding!
+ Tape length. The extending tape is a good length, fine for my spaniel (sadly has to go on a lead now due to eyesight problems) to have a good explore, but manageable for me.
+ Tape strength. I’ve heard of other brands with tape (rather than string) where it snaps right out of the handle but this seems really well secured.
Some slight downsides to be aware of but definitely not showstoppers (the things above, like handle size / angle are definite showstoppers for me; obviously need to judge for yourself what is more important of the features for you)
+ / – lock feature. The lock is good and does hold well, but can be a bit ‘sticky’ to engage at first. You have to be quite deliberate about it. This may be compared to our old one which was very worn out and maybe too easy?! I can live with this as when locked it holds well. It does (like our last one) have the option to manually hold the button down too, ie if it just for temporary control, which I find really useful.
– Tape return. This is the only slight, and I mean slight, downside. The tape, if fully extended and/or slightly twisted can sometimes get a bit stuck but a slight tweak frees it easily with no damage. This could easily be user error as much as the product having a slight niggle! I can definitely live with this given all the pros.

Pleasantly surprised
Given some of the reviews I didn’t expect much from this lead. I just hoped for a sturdy enough lead to take my ‘testing 2 year old’ back through some basics but give him some space to roam while we work on recall and proximity without having to haul a long line everywhere (especially in wet weather).
This gives us that easy everyday tool to do this and works as well as expected, it actually surpasses expectation in that it is pretty tough – My Lab / GSP is a pretty powerful dog and has run to the end often until the ‘steady’ que sank in, though he’ll still do it from time to time and to the point he tore the D-Ring from his harness just the other day! The lead with ring still attached survived the incident without fail.
I only scored lower on a the lock feature and hold because the button is quite bulky and I have often brushed it against my leg while walking which has then ‘un-clicked’ it giving the dog free roam. Other than that and the fact it sometimes jams when retracting, but frees itself with a tug it’s fine and actually pretty hardy for the price.

Disappointed
I really like the grip, the feel and the look. I like that it came in different colours to match the harness and to highlight to anyone wanting to pet my puppy that he’s a boy.
It feels strong, so I don’t feel anxious when my pup runs to the full length.
I really appreciated the additional bit of lead that came with this, it stops my pup from biting the main part of the lead which retracts back into the handle.
Downsides; It does get stuck when reeling back in, and often a little too slow, so my pup does run over it and sometimes gets shock against his genitalia.
The lock is not secure. When he pulls it’s fine, but when he comes closer and the lead is slack, it often unlocks the length. This has caused significant issues when walking close to traffic, as I am not aware when this happens and my pup starts making a break for his 5 meters of freedom – often straight to smelly drains on the road.
I am currently doing walk training, so I am holding the lead and the handle at the same time, so the lead is OK for now. I won’t buy this brand again, purely due to the lock mechanism.

Perfect balance of security & freedom
I have a ‘runner’ whose recall is hit & miss. He is a bundle of joy & loves to play. Having this extendable lead gives me peace of mind that I have control but also allows him freedom to explore & enough freedom to bound around.
He is also going through an anxiety phase with dogs of his size which unfortunately means he can get a bit grumpy with them. The retraction of the lead is so easy & the control is great this also gives me peace of mind.
Really comfortable to hold too.

Strong mechanism
The lead appears very strong but does occasionally jam when twisted

The small lead extender broke
The actual lead is good but unfortunately the extender wasn’t good it came off when I was walking my pup and this meant he was running around freely.🙁

Easy to use. Dog is happy.
Easy to use. Dog is happy. No clasp for doggy bags poo. Shame about that

Solid good quality
It’s working very good. Made with solid material so should use it long time. Unfortunately there is no bag container. It has another short leash if your dog likes to chew.

Would definitely recommend
This dog lead is what I’d been looking for, light and easy to use, and plenty of length, the lead retracts well, I would recommend this to any dog walkers

Light & comfy but poor quality lead- broke within 7 months
Hasn’t lasted 7 months… which I don’t think is a fair timeframe, especially as we didn’t use it everyday! The lead snapped fortunately at start of our walk so I could run home and grab another lead. Slightly upset as the handle is very comfortable and lightweight
My husband often found it unclicking when locked and the lead, I thought he want using it correctly but the same thing happened to me. Maybe we ended up with a faulty one.
I am going to try another one and see if we had a one off. I am hopeful that the new one doesn’t break or continue to unlock

Nice strong lead
My 15kg dog is inclined to pull, unexpectedly, on the lead. He can be walking calmly but suddenly sees something of interest that needs to be chased, and he’s off! This lead works well, is comfortable for him and for me and does the job well.
