5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sturdy Dog Guard
This dog guard is substantial and well made, it fits in my Rav4 perfectly and there is no way my GSD can move it (or me for that matter!). It is excellent quality and inspires confidence that your dog is safe. The only downsides are that it does take some time to fit and because it is fitted to the rear headrests, you would need to dismantle it if you want to put the back seats down. However I think this is worth the hassle, just because it fits so well, is so substantial and does what it says on the tin.

1.0 out of 5 stars not universal – and seller not understanding
This product is supposed to fit hatchbacks. I like to think that I have a quite ordinary Vauxhall Corsa, but found to my dismay that the brackets were too short for the headrest poles they need to attach to. I returned the product together with a photo proving that it didnt fit, since the seller states that he will refund the postage if it turns out he was at fault. Postage to return this item cost me £12.60 (it’s a heavy thing). However, the seller refused to refund postage on the basis that it states “fits most hatchbacks”. Well, without a list showing which ones it does fit, what is the buyer to do??! My advice is to stay away from this product since you may be disappointed, and you will get no reasonable behaviour from the seller.

Also, I found that the plastic knobs used to tighten the rods (if I ever got that far!) did not all work – the plastic thread had gone. Another reason to stay away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for sale price
Fits my Toyota Yaris and seems sturdy although only had it a couple of days. Not sure if it was sold as new but looks used to me. Some plastic knobs look as though they had some wear and box torn and sellotaped together. Think it reasonable for the price, would have complained if I’d bought it at full price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong and Adjustable
Having read that quite a few people found the guard didn’t fit their car I dithered before ordering one. However, as a reviewer mentioned that it was ok in their Zafira (which is the car we have) I decided to risk it – we particularly wanted a guard that wouldn’t take up any floor space in the boot and this one seemed ideal.

When it arrived I was extremely surprised to find how adjustable it was. The length of each horizontal bar can be adjusted to follow the contours of your car. The spacing between the horizontal bars also can be altered. The two vertical bars (stretching from headrests to ‘ceiling’) can be varied in height and the distance between them can be changed to match the distance between your rear seat headrests. The two clamps that fix onto the headrests obviously can’t be changed too much, however, even these have some scope for flexibility – elongated slots with moveable grips. I can only imagine that either the design of the guard has changed or that, previously, people just didn’t discover how much could be adjusted (something which wouldn’t surprise me as the instructions are hopeless).

The guard has been in use now for a month and we’ve had no problems at all with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well but fiddly to install
Pleased with the final result but it is a two person job to install and was accompanied in our case of a lot of bickering

    2.0 out of 5 stars Beware……
Anyone buying this item should be VERY careful. How it can be described as suitable for the `majority` of hatchbacks, estates and 4×4`s is meaningless. Mine was bought for a large hatchback – a Skoda Octavia – and could only be fitted by drilling new holes, cutting 8-10 cms off two of the bars (to avoid the possibility of my dog losing an eye in the event of a collision), and discarding two of the four grille bars. The quality of the thread on two of the bolts was so poor that the nuts did not tighten properly until I had taken them off and greased and re-threaded them.
The item itself is sturdy and otherwise well made, but even as a competent DIY`er it took me over an hour to fit and needed the assistance of another person.
Had I known what I was letting myself in for I wouldn`t have bought it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn’t fit my Land Rover Discovery Sport (2018) well.
Fitting the guard was a bit like trying to nail jelly to a wall. It took many tries before it looked ok. The package I received had no instructions other than pictures on the box -which didn’t help a whole lot. I couldn’t get the suckers to fit against the top of the car so had to leave them off. Space only allowed 3 out of 4 bars to be installed too. That said, in the end I got it installed and it looks like it will do the job – it definitely seems sturdy enough.

2.0 out of 5 stars It is not universal Check your car carefuly
I had to adapt it to fit as the horizontal bars were not long enough.
The locking screws are plastic and do not grip tightly on the sliding bars, they do not hold fully tightened and slip undone (much like a stripped thread), they keep falling out.
This could be a very good product but for the issues I’ve encountered.
I had to move the wider black bars to the inside of the vertical bars due to the width of my car and positioning of the headrests. This meant the making of plastic shims so the vertical bracket would hold the narrower sliding bars.
My vehicle is a Ssangyong Turismo, which has two captain seats in the middle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flexible fit and very strong
This fits a Nissan micra ( new style ). Extremely easy to use the ‘feet’ at the top are adjustable in length and have a screw tightener for a solid roof fit. The attachments to the headrests are able to be angled to allow for maximum use of space depending on the seat slope. They have movement available on headrest feet width as well. Each of the bars has a clip lock at the connection points allowing independent movement and secure anchoring. The silver ends are actually extension bars locked with a screw to allow for full width fitting. I removed one of the bars entirely as in the Micra it was too much having four. The item is very heavy and well built and all in all I’d recommend it highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars anyway after a bit of modification ie cutting a longer slot I was able to put the thing together and adjusting the bars height a
As you will have read this is a pain to fit and will not fit many cars at all even when described as universal, the head rest fittings centre to centre are preset which means the head rest bolt on clamps cannot be adjusted for width a pity as one small design change of a elongated slot would make the clamp fit most head rests, anyway after a bit of modification ie cutting a longer slot I was able to put the thing together and adjusting the bars height and width made it fit in my 05 micra but I will say it was not easy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn’t fit VW Polo 2013
Doesn’t fit a VW Polo 2013, not “universal” by definition. Aggressive customer service response. Good work guys!

Update: for anyone that is in this position, we drilled 2 more holes and removed one of the horizontal poles to make it fit. Guard itself seems reasonably sturdy.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is not “universal”
This dog guard is a good quality item but it is definitely NOT universal. The seller gives guidance for the measurements of the width of the seat headrest pillars, but not for the distance between the headrests, which is essential if you want it to fit your car.
The length of the horizontal black tubes you see in the photo, are as wide as the item will fit to the headrests. My car’s seat headrests are about six inches wider apart, making it impossible to fit this item without replacing those tubes with longer ones.
I also had "challenges" with delivery (it wasn’t, I had to find it myself as it wasn’t where they eventually said it was), but that was their couriers cock-up / laziness.
